The Jamaica Defence force now has a permanent home in western Jamaica.

This was revealed by National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang in giving assurance to residents that the police and military will maintain a strong presence in St. James when the state of emergency ends next week Thursday.

Dr. Chang says while the security forces will no longer have the same powers , they will still carry out effective policing in communities.

In addition to the presence of Jamaica Defence Force in St. James , Dr. Chang says police presence will be adequate..

He notes that since the state of emergency was declared a year ago , it has reduced significantly , the so-called “informer fi dead culture” and residents are giving vital information to the security forces about criminals.

Dr. Chang was addressing a community forum in Norwood St. James last evening (January 20).
