Sunshine girls ace goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler picked up where she left-off at the end of last season….scoring a game high 55 goals to lead defending champions West Coast Fever to a hard-fought 62-61 victory against the melbourne vixens in round one of the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia.
The fever led the majority of the contest but saw the vixens storming back to level the scores with just 40 seconds remaining before Fowler who was perfect on the night scored at the final buzzer to secure the narrow victory.
Action at the John Cain Arena in Melbourne saw Shimona Nelson converting a game-high 53 goals from 53 shots to lead the collingwood magpies to an impressive 71-63 win over the NSW swifts.
She was aided by defender Jodi-Ann Ward who stole the show in a season-opener, racking up 3 rebounds, 3 intercepts and 4 deflections to earn the player of the match accolade.
For New South Sales, Romelda Aiken-George marked her first outing in the red dress making 30 of her 35 shots.
