JTA warns it will not be business as usual if teachers are still not paid March salaries by month end

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association JTA has warned that it will not be business as usual, if all teachers are still not paid their March salaries by the end of this month.

President Lasonja Harrison issued the warning while speaking with reporters in Manchester today.

The salary issues are reportedly due to challenges related to the implementation of the new public sector compensation system.

The Education Ministry had indicated that affected teachers would have been paid yesterday.

However, Ms. Harrison said several teachers remain unpaid despite the association’s best effort.

She reiterated that the non-payment of salaries shows that the government lacks respect for teachers.
