Judicial Review Court to determine if Ruel Reid and his co-accused have a case to answer

The Judicial Review Court is to review the court ruling that former Education Minister Ruel Reid, Former President of the Caribbean Maritime University Dr. Fritz Pinnock, and their co-accused have a case to answer.

The accused who are facing fraud charges appeared in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court today (October 3).

During their appearance, the court was told that the Judicial Review Court is to hear the motion in which they are seeking to have the charges thrown out. The matter is to be heard next February 6 and 7.

They are asking the court to quash the decision of Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks that they have a case to answer.

Judge Crooks made the order last year after the lawyers for the accused argued that the financial investigations did not have the legal authority to arrest and charge them.

Judge Crooks later recused himself from the trial, due to conflict of interest, as both he and Mr. Reid attended Munro College.

Reid, his wife Sharen, their daughter Sharelle, Browns Town Division Councillor Kim Brown Lawrence and Pinnock were charged in relation to a fraud and corruption probe at the Caribbean Maritime University.

They are to return to court on January 9 next year.
