Large bush fire in Mavis Bank brought under control

by June 26th, 2019

A bush fire which has been burning in the Mavis Bank area of St. Andrew for a few days, has been brought under control, reducing the threat posed to hundreds of acres of coffee.

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Lenworth Fulton, says while the fire will need a shower of rain to be completely extinguished, aerial water drops from the Jamaica Defence Force have helped to control and extinguish most of the flames.

Mr. Fulton notes that the Mavis Bank fire is one of several bush fires that have threatened farmers and farm land since the start of the dry season.

He is urging farmers to be very careful with how they use fires on their farms.
