Senator Matthew Samuda has been appointed Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of National Security.

The swearing in ceremony took place this afternoon (February 17) at Kings House by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister says with this appointment, the constitutional requirement for Cabinet level appointment from the Senate would be met.

The Cabinet vacancy was created when Pearnel Charles Junior who was Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation resigned from the Senate to seek a seat in the Lower House.
