National Commission to provide report on steps to curtail violence, next month

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the National Commission on Violence Prevention is to provide a report next month, on the steps that should be implemented to curtail violence in the country.

The commission, which was established in 2019, is aimed at finding ways of tackling the high level of crime and violence plaguing the country.

Speaking during his budget presentation in parliament, yesterday, Prime Minister Holness said the commission has reviewed over 45 violence prevention programmes, that were implemented between 2015 and 2021.

He said the commission is working on a 10 year action plan, to include legislative changes and institutional building.

According to the Prime Minister, the national plan will address the  root causes of violence in the country such as: hate, aggression, low self-esteem, lack of respect and lack of respect for life.
