National Security Minister says security forces making gains in the fight against crime

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has assured that the security forces, and by extension the government, are making some gains in the fight against crime, be it gang-related, or family-oriented.

The minister noted that based on the latest figures from the constabulary force, there has been a decrease in criminal activity so far this year, compared to last year.

He acknowledged the growing concern about crime, citing the recent gang conflict in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, and yesterday’s brutal slaying of a Clarendon family.

Responding to a query from IRIE FM News, while visiting the Clarendon community that’s still reeling from the gruesome murders yesterday, Dr. Chang said the downward trend, will be maintained.

He noted that reaching young people, especially men, through psychosocial services, will help in targeting the root cause of violence.
