NRSC to meet this month to prepare recommendations for new RTA review

The National Road Safety Council, NRSC is to meet later this month to start reviewing suggestions and prepare recommendations for Cabinet in relation to the new Road Traffic Act.

The act which was implemented on February 1 is before the council and is being reviewed following public backlash about some of the stipulations.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister Floyd Green said they have been taking comments from the public and from the public transport operators regarding various provisions.

According to him some of the provisions being reviewed include allowing drivers to use a digital copy of a driver’s licence and specifications regarding tint.

Mr. Green said the new Road Traffic Act is not a tool of oppression but is designed to promote safe driving practices.

He added that the NRSC is also a part of the discussions at the Ministry of National Security, to put in place a new traffic ticket management system to satisfy the requirements of the new Road Traffic Act.
