Only 7 of the 28 pieces of legislation identified in GG’s throne speech this year, enacted

Only seven of the 28 pieces of legislation identified in the Governor General’s Throne Speech earlier this year, have been enacted to date.

This is according to Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte.

She gave an update on the progress of legislation contained in the 2022/2023 legislation programme, while speaking in Parliament, yesterday (December 6).

Mrs. Malahoo Forte noted that the legislation completed, include the Road Traffic and the Firearms Acts.

She noted that there are other matters which were mentioned in the throne speech, which require legislative work, although no specific legislation was identified.

These include orders and resolutions to support the continuation or declaration of Zones of Special Operations, and SOE proclamations.

Mrs. Malahoo Forte said moving forward, a realistic legislation programme must be crafted each year, having regard to the capacity of some ministries and the heavy demands placed on the Ministry of Legal and Constitutional Affairs.
