Opposition calls for removal of Dr. Tufton as Health Minister

by December 3rd, 2019

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy, is calling for the removal of Dr. Christopher Tufton as Minister of Health and Wellness.

This, as he says the minister has failed to properly manage the portfolio.

Speaking at a press conference this morning (December 03) Dr. Guy said the lives of ordinary Jamaicans are at risk, as a result of what he calls the minister’s ineptitude.

He stated that the gross mismanagement of the health sector is not confined to the inadequate response to the dengue epidemic, but extends to other areas of the health sector.

Dr. Guy noted that there are shortages of drugs in health centres, among many other issues, which have worsened in recent times.

In addition to the many problems in the health sector, the opposition spokesman noted that the country was without a medical council for several months and said this is unacceptable.

Dr. Guy lamented that Dr. Tufton has failed to deliver in his capacity as Health Minister and should be removed from the post.

Meantime, Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton has responded to the People’s National Party’s call for him to be removed from the portfolio.

He says the opposition cannot instruct the Prime Minister on how to organize his Cabinet.

Dr. Tufton says he will remain as Health and Wellness Minister, until Prime Minister Andrew Holness sees it fit to remove him.
