Opposition Calls On Government To Explain Long Term Plans For Fighting Crime

by September 19th, 2018

Despite voting with the government on the resolution to extend the State of Emergency (SOE), Opposition leader Dr. Peter Phillips wants the government to explain its long term plans for fighting crime, as he says the current measures are unsustainable.

Speaking in today’s (September 19) debate on the extension of the State of Public Emergency in the St. Catherine North Police Division, Dr. Phillips said he was concerned about the long term plans for the country.

The Opposition leader said the redeployment of security personnel is having a negative impact on other police divisions throughout the island.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Holness sought to assure the parliament that increasing the concentration of security personnel in one area does not mean that other areas are being deprived.
