Opposition describes gov’t’s handling of the issues relating to the treatment of security guards, as a big disappointment

The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP has described the government’s handling of the issues relating to the treatment of security guards, as a  big disappointment.

Scores of security guards are reportedly being forced to sign new employment contracts, some of which are demanding that they waive their rights, including for benefits accrued through years of service.

The new contracts are being issued by companies, as part of the transition process of guards, from independent contract workers to employees, following a supreme court ruling.

The guards have expressed dissatisfaction with how the Labour Ministry is treating the matter and have since called on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to intervene.

Opposition Spokesperson on Labour Dr. Angela Brown-Burke also expressed disappointment with the lack of response from Mr. Holness.

She said the concerns of the guards are seemingly being ignored.
