Opposition Senator, Peter Bunting has criticized Prime Minister Andrew Holness over recent comments he made about the National Housing Trust (NHT) not being a welfare institution.

Mr Holness had said it was illogical for the NHT to be operated as a charitable organization, rather than as a financial institution.

Speaking at the People’s National Party’s Mandeville Divisional Conference at the Manchester High School on Sunday, Mr Bunting said the country does not have a shortage of financial institutions, as he pointed to the pillars on which the NHT was formed by former Prime Minister Michael Manley in 1974.

In the meantime, Mr Bunting said the Government should accept positive suggestions from the opposition, as he pointed to the proposal of Opposition Leader Mark Golding for there to be a cap on the Special Consumption Tax on fuel.
