PM Andrew Holness attends official service of commemoration for Former Cabinet Minister the late Shahine Robinson today

The official service of commemoration and inurnment for Former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament for North East St Ann, the late Shahine Robinson, will be held today (July 4).

The service is slated for 1 PM, at the St. Matthews Anglican Church, in Claremont.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, will participate in the ceremony by reading the first lesson.

Mrs Robinson died on May 29, 2020, during her tenure as Minister of Labour and Social Security.

At the time of her passing, the Government announced that an official funeral would be accorded.

Further to the Government’s announcement, the official funeral, previously scheduled for July 19, 2020, could not be held, due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 infections and the prevailing public health and safety measures, under the Disaster Risk Management Act.

However, a period of official mourning was duly observed and a private service for the immediate family was held in 2020.

The Robinson family had agreed that once the national COVID-19-induced health crisis abated, an official funeral could be scheduled by the Government.

The recommended preventative measures for health management in relation to restricted church seating and other precautions will be maintained.
