Prime Minister Andrew Holness has warned that the government will soon have to declare no build zones, as part of efforts to ensure that citizens only construct buildings in areas deemed safe.
This in the wake of reports of damage to several homes, due to heavy rains, flooding, and landslides, in recent days.
Speaking in parliament yesterday Mr. Holness pointed out that government will seek to ensure that Jamaicans live where it is environmentally safe.
Mr. Holness cited the Shooters Hill incident.
He said the government has to develop a policy on planned communities.
Mr. Holness said government’s pledge to build houses is part of the thrust to provide safe homes.
