PM issues warning to motorcyclists of the severe penalties they will face if they fail to wear safety gear

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has issued a warning to motorcyclists of the severe penalties they will face if they fail to wear safety gear.

Under the new Road Traffic Act which comes into effect on February 1, motorists  will face harsher penalties for breaching the law.

According to Mr. Holness, he doesn’t believe the message has reached those who need to hear it.

He singled out motorcyclists who drive recklessly and do not wear a helmet.

Mr Holness shared his experience in Rwanda, when he attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, noting how differently motorcyclists operate in that country.

He said the society will not tolerate the behaviour.
