Prime Minister Andrew Holness has assured that the development of the Morant Bay Urban Centre, and other infrastructure, in St. Thomas, will facilitate economic growth for the parish, in sectors such as tourism, investment and housing.
Holness today (June 26) broke ground for the urban centre at the old Good Year Factory in Springfield.
He added that the development will also open up the area to mining.
The Factories Corporation of Jamaica will be leading the redevelopment of the facility, to create an integrated light manufacturing, industrial, commercial and retail complex.
The development is being described as a “one stop shop” with the amalgamation of the essential services provided by the government supported by additional services offered by the private sector.
