PM says Health Ministry reviewing travel ban imposed on several African nations

by December 8th, 2021

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Health and Wellness Ministry is reviewing the travel ban that was imposed on several African nations late last month and will make an announcement on the matter soon.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday (December 7), Mr. Holness noted that there would be no change in the requirements to enter Jamaica, as it relates to the need for a negative COVID-19 test, within three days of travel.

He said, however, given the fact that the new Omicron variant has now been identified in many countries, it is inevitable that the strain will emerge in Jamaica.

Mr. Holness added that the ban was never meant to be discriminatory but was intended to allow Jamaica to prepare itself.
