The opposition People’s National Party, PNP has chastised Prime Minister Andrew Holness over how the issues regarding former Education Minister Ruel Reid and allegations of corruption were handled.

This in the wake of media reports that Mr. Holness revealed that the matter threatened the integrity of government, and this led to Mr. Reid’s resignation.

In a statement today (February 26), PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson noted that the opposition is alarmed that Mr. Holness was reportedly aware of the allegations against Mr. Reid for some months, and that Mr. Holness only had a conversation with Mr. Reid prior to the resignation.

Mr. Robinson has raised questions as to whether Mr. Holnesss has shared information he has on the Ruel Reid issue with the police and other investigative bodies.

The PNP General Secretary called on Mr. Holness to tell the nation what action he took when he was first made aware of the issues.

Mr. Robinson questioned the Prime Minister’s responsiveness to matters relating to allegations of corruption, to include, at the Education Ministry, the Caribbean Maritime University, the Energy Ministry, and Petrojam.

Mr. Robinson said Mr. Holness needs to assure the country that there is full corporation from the government and that the Prime Minister is willing to stand on the side of justice.
