Police report increase in marijuana smuggling by boat

by February 4th, 2020

There has been an increase in the smuggling of marijuana out of the country, by boat.

Acting Operations Officer of the Marine Police Division, Inspector Derron White says the increase became noticeable late last year, into early this year.

Noting that the activities relate to the guns for drugs trade, he says the illegal activity is prevalent, off the coast of Clarendon, and St. Thomas.

Inspector White says the police are clamping down on those involved, with six vessels seized, and several persons arrested and charged, so far.

He adds that three Hondurans and two Jamaicans were also arrested during an operation in Negril, last week.

The matter is being investigated.
