163 firearms have been seized by the police since the start of the year.
Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson, made the revelation during a press conference this afternoon.
He said there is a 100 % increase in the number of rifles seized so far this year, compared to the same period last year.
Major General Anderson said the weapons seized are of high value and are associated with warfare and organized criminals are using them to terrorize communities.
Noting that 7 firearms were seized at a port in St. James yesterday, the police commissioner further said the Jamaica Customs Agency is partnering with the JCF to prevent weapons from entering the country.
