Police warn citizens about emerging trend where robbers target persons making large cash transactions at commercial banks in town centres

The police are warning citizens about an emerging trend where robbers target persons making large cash transactions at commercial banks in town centres.

The police say they have picked up on incidents in Portmore, St. Catherine, May Pen in Clarendon and Half Way Tree, Liguanea, and Duke Street in Kingston and St. Andrew.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), information suggests that the robbers work in groups, employing at least two individuals—one as a spotter to identify potential victims and another who commits the actual act of robbery.

It says the motorcycle is the preferred mode of transport, though there have been incidents where motorcars were used.

The police say while arrests have been made, investigators believe the syndicate continues to operate and are warning people to be highly vigilant by paying attention to their surroundings.

The JCF says persons can also opt for non-cash options, avoid wearing expensive jewellery and carrying costly gadgets to the bank and be careful who they trust so as to ward off robbers.
