The St. Ann Municipal Corporation has begun renovation works on a section of the Ocho Rios market / parking lot, with some heavy duty equipment brought in to dig up the old asphalt.
Chairman Michael Belnavis told Irie FM News that the renovations include the establishment of pavements, and proper bathroom facilities.
He said the vendors stalls on the periphery of the parking lot, will be upgraded.
The work is expected to be completed within a month.
Meantime, Mayor Belnavis has indicated that no legitimate vendor who has periphery stalls, at the Ocho Rios market / parking lot will be displaced, due to ongoing renovation works.
He said some illegal vendors and taxi operators, in the parking lot, were asked to vacate the area.
For safety reasons, the active construction zone has been cordoned off.
