Residents of Kent Village, St. Catherine are calling on the authorities to carry out investigations, following what appears to be chemical pollution of the Rio Cobre.

Residents say the water is red and videos also show a white substance on the surface.

One resident told Irie Fm News that this has been the situation for 2 days and fish are dying.

He noted that similar incidents have happened in the past.

He says fisherfolk including himself, have been affected.

Meanwhile, the National Environment and Planning Agency, NEPA is investigating the incident.

Director of Environmental Management and Conservation at NEPA Anthony Mckenzie is urging residents not to use the river at this time.
