Residents of Troy, Oxford and surrounding communities in Manchester and Trelawny, demand timeline for replacement of collapsed bridge

Residents of Troy, Oxford and surrounding communities in Manchester and Trelawny, are demanding that a timeline be given for the replacement of a bridge, which collapsed last year.

Yesterday (July 5), the residents blocked a section of the Oxford to Troy main road, which borders Manchester and Trelawny to voice their frustration over the inconvenience they have experienced since the bridge collapsed.

One resident, Dulcy Bromfield said she has incurred increased travelling costs to use the alternative route.

She added that it is dangerous for residents to continue using a makeshift crossing close to the riverbed.

Another resident, Michael Witter said he wants a commitment as to when the bridge will be replaced.

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesman on Transport and Works Mikael Phillips, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manchester North Western, said although the demonstration happened in Southern Trelawny, he sympathizes with the residents.
