Rushane Barnett named as person of interest, in relation to killing of woman and her 4 children in Clarendon

The police have named a man as a person of interest, as investigations deepen into the murder of a woman and her four children in Chapleton, Clarendon this morning (June 21).

The children are 3 girls and 1 boy.

Dead are 34-year-old Kemisha Wright, 15-year-old Kimana Smith, 10-year-old Shemari Smith, 5-year-old Kafana Smith and 23-month-old Kishaun Henry all of Cocoa Piece, in Chapleton.

They were discovered at their home this morning with their throats slashed.

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson identified the person of interest in the case, as Rushane Barnett otherwise called ‘Jett’ or ‘Nick.

He said Barnett is the deceased woman’s cousin.

Meantime, Head of the Clarendon Police Division, Senior Superintendent Glenford Miller gave more details about the brutal incident.

And the government has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of Ms. Wright and her four children.

Minister of National Security, and Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Horace Chang in expressing sadness at the killings, said the family was promising.

He said the incident is a reflection of a greater social disease of violence.

Meantime, Member of Parliament for Clarendon North Central Robert Morgan has described this morning’s gruesome killing of 4 children and their mother in Chapelton, Clarendon, as a tragedy.

The 3 girls, 1 boy and their mother, were found at their home, with their throats slashed.

In a post to his Twitter page this morning, Mr. Morgan said the incident has left the constituency in deep sadness and noted that it will be tough for the residents.

The MP who is on a trip to Kigali Rwanda said his team is, visiting, Chapleton.

And a resident who says she knew the family states that the news of the killing has left her weak.
