by March 23rd, 2021

A man has been detained in relation to the murder of a 39 year old St. Ann investigator who was assigned to Office of the Public Defender.

Dead is Philemon Wynter of Hyde Park district in Alexandria, St. Ann.

Reports are that at about 3:00 a.m. residents heard screaming from Wynter’s home.

Shortly after the house was seen a blaze and gunshots were heard.

The police and fire fighters responded and the charred remains of Wynter were seen after cooling down operations.

Meantime, General Secretary of the People’s National Party, Dr. Dayton Campbell has expressed sadness at the killing of Mr. Wynter.

Mr. Wynter, who was a former PNP Constituency Secretary for South West St. Ann, was shot and killed early this morning and his home set on fire.

Noting that Mr. Wynter was a committed individual, Dr. Campbell says the incident is quite unfortunate.

Dr. Campbell has reiterated the Opposition’s call, for the government to take urgent action to control the island’s murder rate.

He said the government must take urgent steps to implement a crime management strategy that will give the nation some reprieve from the bloodletting.
