Taxi operator who transported Monkeypox patient remains unknown

The driver of the vehicle that was used to transport Jamaica’s first Monkeypox patient, after he allegedly left the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, without permission, remains unknown.

This as the patient is reportedly uncooperative and refuses to identify the driver.

The Clarendon Police have indicated that there isn’t much that cops can do in the matter, because the driver has not committed a criminal offence.

However, the police say they remain ready to assist health officials, if and when they are able to locate the driver.

The cops said health officials are monitoring the occupants of the home that the patient fled to, after escaping from the hospital.

Its not clear if any of them contracted the disease.

There is heightened concern about the Monkeypox, following yesterday’s (July 23) declaration of the disease as a global health emergency of international concern, with calls for the Health Ministry to step up public awareness.
