Teachers and other persons essential to the operations of schools will be included as a priority group for COVID-19 vaccination.
Education Minister Fayval Williams made the revelation yesterday.
She said the Education Ministry began talks with the Ministry of Health and Wellness yesterday, regarding a schedule of vaccination for this priority group against the COVID-19 virus.
She has also updated the Jamaica Teachers’ Association and there will be further discussion over the next few days, to look at the options and criteria for prioritization among the various personnel in the system.
Recently, the Pan American Health Organization, PAHO, announced that COVID-19 Global Access Facility, COVAX, member countries, including Jamaica, should know soon, the exact dates they will receive COVID-19 vaccines.
Earlier this month, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, revealed that the Government had been advised by the COVAX facility, that the country is set to receive between 146,400 and 249,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines, by mid to late February.
