Two students of the Edwin Allen High school remain in critical condition at hospital, after the vehicle in which they were travelling ran off a bridge and plunged into a river in Frankfield, Clarendon yesterday (May 8, 2019).
Nine others received various injuries and were hospitalized overnight for observation.
Principal of the Edwin Allen High school, Dr. Everton Walters says yesterday’s teachers day celebrations were dampened by news of the accident.
Some eight guidance counsellors from neighbouring schools are providing counselling to affected students.
Dr. Walters says he has been lobbying for a transportation system to take students to and from school.
He is calling on the Education Ministry to provide such a bus service that would also benefit other students.
He laments that taxis cannot carry the number of students who require transportation from certain distances to school.
