Update: MOCA charges Ruel Reid, Fritz Pinnock and others in relation to corruption allegations

Joint Operations – Multimillion Dollar Fraud Investigation

 

The Financial Investigations Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), and the Constabulary Financial Unit of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Division (CTOC) are conducting investigations into allegations of corruption, fraud and misappropriation of public funds involving the Ministry of Education and the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU).

 

On the conclusion of the joint operations today, five persons were arrested and taken into custody where interviews were conducted in the presence of their attorneys.

 

These include Mr. Ruel Reid, his wife Mrs. Sharen Reid and daughter Ms. Sharelle Reid, Professor Fritz Pinnock and Councillor of the Brown’s Town Division, Mrs. Kim Brown-Lawrence.

 

Upon the completion of the interview process these parties were subsequently charged for various illegal acts, to include; breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act (CPA), Conspiracy to Defraud, Misconduct in a Public Office at Common Law and breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).

 

The individuals have been remanded in custody and will be placed before the Courts at the earliest possible time.

 

Enquiries into the matter are ongoing.
