US Embassy aware of Covid-19 case related to an employee; routine services suspended

by March 11th, 2020

The US Embassy in Kingston says it is aware of reports of a Covid-19 case related to an employee, however due to privacy concerns, it is unable to share additional information.

Earlier this afternoon (March 11) reports came of a second imported case of Covid-19.

A press release from the embassy says the US Department of State has no greater responsibility than the safety and security of US citizens overseas and locally-employed staff.

It says in coordination with Jamaican authorities, Embassy Kingston is implementing all appropriate measures to help control the spread of Covid-19.

The embassy says it is in the process of sanitizing the premises to prevent further outbreak.

It says its consular section will not be providing routine services – including visa processing and American citizens services – until further notice.
