The operations of the JDF Coast Guard have been bolstered through the donation of two boats from the United States Embassy.
The 37-foot Justice Boston Whaler and a 38-foot Secure All-around Flotation Equipped (SAFE) boat were unveiled at a ceremony in Port Royal this morning (May 9, 2019).
In addition to the boats which are classified as inshore patrol vessels, four trucks were also received by Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Rocky Meade, from Chargé d’ Affaires of the US Embassy, Eric Khant.
Speaking at this morning’s handover ceremony, Mr. Khant noted that the vessels are intended to help the Coast Guard secure Jamaica’s coastline.
He called upon the Coast Guard to put the vessels to good use.
The total value of the donated items is US $7.7 million dollars.
