US reportedly blocked sales of medical equipment meant for Jamaica

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has confirmed that the United States blocked the sale of COVID-19 testing equipment meant for Jamaica.

This follows reports of similar action taken against countries such as Barbados and the Cayman Islands in recent times.

Speaking in parliament yesterday, Dr. Tufton noted that Jamaica’s testing capacity was limited, due to the blocking of the sale of test kits needed by the health sector by the United States.

The Health Minister noted that his Ministry has been able to source the required equipment from other places.

He said the country should have some 20,000 kits for testing by this weekend.
