JRC to conduct assessment following fire

by November 1st, 2017

The Jamaica Railway Corporation JRC says it will be conducting an assessment today to determine the extent of the damage caused by a fire at its storage facility in Downtown Kingston, yesterday.

No one was hurt in the incident, as the facility was not in active use.

The Fire Brigade says the cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.

Public Relations Officer at the Fire Brigade Emilio Ebanks says 4 units responded to the call and put out the blaze.

Meantime, General Manager of the JRC Fitzroy Williams says the damaged sections which housed equipment and historical documents are a significant loss to the company.

He says the loss would have been far worse if equipment had been burnt, but quick action by fire-fighters saved these items.

He says the equipment will be moved to another storage area.

Mr Williams says today’s assessment will include an estimate of the cost of damage.
