by January 31st, 2018

Plans are afoot to demolish the burnt out structure, at the Walkers Place of Safety in Kingston, in preparation for the rebuilding of a state of the art facility.

Fire razed the place of safety on January 15, killing two girls and displacing thirty-four other children.

Manager of Public Relations and Communications at the Child Protection And Family Services Agency, Rochelle Dixon says the National Solid Waste Management Authority removed the debris from the site last week.

She says many Jamaicans and organizations have pledged their assistance to the rebuilding process.

Ms Dixon adds that an architect has also committed to submitting a design to the agency.

More than $4 million was collected up to last week, with major commitments still coming in.

Meantime, Ms. Dixon says there are signs that the children are improving and are settling in.

She says therapeutic sessions being planned for them in another six weeks.
