Councillor for the Mount Salem Division in St James Kerry Thomas is welcoming the extension of the Zone of Special Operations in the community.
Yesterday the House of Representatives approved the motion for an extension of the Zone of Special Operation ZOSO in Mount Salem St James.
The ZOSO will be extended for 60 days.
Councillor Thomas says some residents were requesting that some security personnel remain in the community after the end of the ZOSO.
Irie Fm News spoke with some Mount Salem residents and there were mixed views about the extension of the ZOSO.
One resident says she is happy for the extension, because she is able to live in peace, while another woman argued that the ZOSO should have been taken to another community.
She explained that there are murders being committed elsewhere in St James that would benefit from a ZOSO.
She says she is frustrated with the restriction that accompanies a ZOSO.

In the meantime, Councillor Thomas says while he is embracing the extension of ZOSO for a further 60 days a collaborative approach is needed to address the escalation of crime in other parts of st. James.
