Who will win the 2017 Grammy for Best Reggae Album?
The anticipation builds up as the 59th annual award ceremony is just five days away.
Vying for the best reggae album are first-time Grammy nominees Devin Di Dakta & J.L for Sly & Robbie Presents – Reggae for Her, J Boog for Rose Petals, Raging Fyah for Everlasting, and Rebelution for Falling Into Place.
Meanwhile, multiple Grammy winner Ziggy Marley, is up for his self-titled album, and American reggae band Soja who was nominated in 2015, has secured their second nomination for Soja: Live In Virginia.
With over 84 categories, the field is led by Beyoncé with 9 nominations, followed by Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West who all have 8 nominations each.
And speaking of Drake, if he should win the Grammy for best rap album, will Beenie Man and PopCaan get a Grammy certificate since they were both sampled? However, if Dj Khaled snags the top prize from Drake then Mavado stands a chance of getting a Grammy certificate.
However, dancehall deejay Sean Paul stands a better chance at winning a Grammy. The international dancehall deejay is nominated in the category, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his collaborative effort with Sia for Cheap Thrills.
Either way, it’s a great look for reggae and dancehall at the 2017 staging of the Grammys which will be held this Sunday, February 12.
