Commuters left stranded as Portland residents protest against Southern Coastal Highway project

Scores of commuters, including school children, were left stranded, as residents of Fairy Hill, Portland, mounted roadblocks on Monday morning.

The residents are protesting over dust nuisance, deplorable road conditions and inconsistent water supply, reportedly caused by works on the Southern Coastal Highway improvement project, in the eastern section of the parish.

Some students of the Titchfield High, Port Antonio High and Happy Grove High schools, have been forced to walk long distances, or return home, due to the roadblock.

This is the second time in the past two months, that the residents have blocked the roadway, over the issues.
