Expansion work on Christiana taxi park to start by August

Transport Minister Audley Shaw has indicated that expansion work for the Christiana taxi park, in Manchester, should start in another 3 months.

The update comes in the wake of complaints by taxi operators about the lack of adequate parking facilities in the town.

Saw, accompanied by Managing Director of the Transport Authority Ralston Smith, and Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell, toured lands adjoining to the park, yesterday.

The minister said the first phase of the project will see the park being expanded, by about half an acre.

He noted that discussions are being held with land owners, relating to acquisition of additional property.

For his part, Mr. Smith said the expanded park will be able to accommodate about 500 taxis.

And, Mayor Mitchell said the technical team is in the process of drafting the design for the facility, which when completed, should help eliminate traffic congestion.
