Labour Ministry intervenes in dispute between teachers and gov’t; emergency meeting set for today

The Labour Ministry has called an emergency conciliatory meeting between the Ministry of Education and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association to facilitate the resumption of normality in schools across the island.

In a statement, the Labour Ministry said the meeting is set for 8:30 this morning, at its Kingston office.

This is in response to a request made yesterday by the Education Ministry, for the intervention of the Labour Ministry based on the apparent industrial action reportedly being taken by teachers in government administered educational institutions island wide.

The teachers who are represented by the JTA have rejected the government’s latest wage offer.
