Ministry of Sports commits 35 million dollars for JAAA National Senior and Junior ‘Champs’

A grand total of 35 million dollars has been committed by the Ministry of Sports to the JAAA for this year’s staging of the national senior and Junior Athletics Championships at the National Stadium between July 6th and 9th at the National Stadium as well as preparations for the World Championships in Budapest Hungary in August.

The breakdown will see ten million dollars going towards the staging of the championships with the remaining 25 million going towards costs associated with the team heading to the World Championships.

The announcement was made by Sports minister Olivia Grange at today’s launch of the National Championships at the Pegasus hotel in Kingston.

Minister Grange says they are fully committed to the athletes as they step up to earn spots on the respective teams.

Apart from vying for spots on the world championship team, the athletes will also seek to gain slots on the teams to the NACAC under 18 and 23 Championships in Costa Rica, the Pan Am Under 20 championships in Puerto Rico in August and the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad also in August.
